Were these the milkweed plants you planted last year? If they are I can’t believe how much they have grown after 1 year.

It is wonderful having students and staff members participate in activities that are engaging and bring the community together. We are now preparing our milkweed and getting our labs together in my class to embrace metamorphosis. I want to say thank you, Mary for introducing the staff at Leeds Avenue School to the Monarch Teacher Network. I am so excited to get start again and this year I will be starting my own Butterfly Garden at my residence. Yes, it will limit me climbing out of my truck in high heels and a dress to collect milkweed and/or finding caterpillars.

Next, I want the Monarch Teacher Network to know that you have helped me learn new skills that have been extremely beneficial to my students. I appreciate the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation for supporting this interactive science lesson that is interdisciplinary in all subject areas. This has been the one project this year that has really excited my students. Specifically, this project also inspired my family and neighbor. I was able to work with my family in collecting and taking care of the butterflies before school started. However, Mary made sure I was personally trained throughout the summer through her sharing of knowledge and providing me with caterpillars for summer school.

In conclusion, Mary made sure I followed up with proper training from the Monarch Teacher Network last summer since she is environmental conscience. Thank you Monarch Teacher Network and Dodge Foundation for helping me inspire, expose, and motivate my students to use science in all areas of their lives.
